Riccione hosts ITT Marconi students: beach research finds no microplastics

Mayor Daniela Angelini welcomed a delegation of 33 students from the "G. Marconi" Technical Technological Institute in Forlì, concluding the EU-funded POC-Orientamento and Piano Estate 2025 projects. The initiative combined field sampling and laboratory analysis to assess microplastic presence on Riccione's beach.

• Participants: 33 third-year students.
• Field work: two sampling outings on the shoreline.
• Analytical method: saturated saline solution for separation, vacuum filtration and microscopic observation, with strict anti-contamination procedures.
• Outcome: samples showed no microplastics, containing only natural cotton fibres.

Beyond scientific goals, the activities strengthened transversal skills such as teamwork, problem solving and time management, linking school learning to active citizenship and local environmental protection.

Mayor's comment: "It was a pleasure to welcome these students and see how dedicated they were in applying their scientific skills to study our ecosystem. We will continue awareness and protection policies for our sea." After the municipal reception, the delegation visited the "Luigi Ghirotti" local museum.
