Elba Honors Giuseppe Pietri with 'Melodies, Memory and Territory' Week

From 9 to 16 May 2026, the island of Elba will pay tribute to Maestro Giuseppe Pietri on the 140th anniversary of his birth and the 80th anniversary of his death. The series of events, organized by the municipalities of Campo nell'Elba and Portoferraio, combines music, historical memory and local heritage promotion.

The program features events across Marina di Campo, Portoferraio and Sant'Ilario, including institutional openings, school concerts, historical pageantry and an exhibition dedicated to the composer, a key figure in the Italian operetta tradition.

  • 9 May, Marina di Campo - Piazza Dante Alighieri at 17:00: performance by the Corteo Storico and Musici e Sbandieratori of Arezzo.
  • 10 May, Portoferraio - Piazza Cavour at 11:00: institutional greetings, a concert by the "Giovanni Pascoli" middle school music program and the opening of the exhibition "Melodies, Memory and Territory".
  • 10 May, Sant'Ilario - 15:45 procession to the cemetery to honor the Maestro; 16:30: Mass animated by the Schola Cantorum "San Gaetano".
  • 13 May, Portoferraio - Sala della Gran Guardia at 17:30: presentation of Fortunato Colella's volume "Giuseppe Pietri musicista italiano".
  • 16 May, Portoferraio - Teatro dei Vigilanti "Renato Cioni" at 21:00: Grand Operetta Gala with the Filarmonica "Giuseppe Pietri", Schola Cantorum "San Gaetano", Coro per caso and guest artists.

Organizers note that the celebrations aim to highlight Pietri's musical legacy — author of works such as Addio giovinezza! and L'acqua cheta — while reinforcing cultural identity and engaging schools, scholars and residents in preserving and transmitting local heritage.
