Here Together: Simona Occhiuzzi’s Resilient Naples

Opening at the Church of Santa Croce and Purgatorio al Mercato in Naples, the solo show “Here, together” by Neapolitan artist Simona Occhiuzzi—curated by Barbara Melcarne—offers a pictorial investigation of the city as a living, unstable organism, where fragility becomes a source of collective resilience.

The concept

With around 15 medium and large-scale works, Occhiuzzi examines how urban matter and social life intersect. The painted houses and streets appear as bodies that tilt, overlap and reassemble, while color acts as a unifying "suture" that reconnects fractured urban and social landscapes.

• Recognizable City: identifiable Neapolitan views and neighborhoods reinterpreted through the artist’s distinctive style.
• Abstract Vision: urban forms dissolve into vibrant chromatic patterns, raising the local narrative to a symbolic level.

Art and community: public activities

“Here, together” is designed as an immersive and participatory project. Key activities include:

• Expressive workshops open to all ages, led by the artist to encourage collective awareness through practical painting exercises.
• Emotional map, an interactive installation where visitors mark their personal point of belonging, making the work a shared civic gesture.

The artist

Simona Occhiuzzi (Naples, 1978) trained at IED Rome. Her practice combines painting, chromatic research and a socially engaged perspective. She has exhibited internationally and contributed to contemporary art projects across Italy.
