Per filo e per segno. Textile art pathways in Italy

BUILDING hosts a curated series on contemporary textile art conceived as a twelve-chapter project bringing together Italian artists from different generations. Curated by Alberto Fiz, the exhibition investigates fibers, weaves and knots as expressive and relational tools rather than mere techniques.

Venue: BUILDING, via Monte di Pietà 23, Milan

Dates: From 10 April to 2 July 2026

  • 10/04/2026 – 06/05/2026: Antonio Marras presents Anime (2026), an installation using garments and archive materials to evoke memory and relations between bodies and textiles.
  • 08/05/2026 – 04/06/2026: Maria Lai is shown with Telaio (2006) and Libro rosso (2009), works examining the connection between weaving, writing and memory.
  • 06/06/2026 – 02/07/2026: Paola Pezzi presents Mobilità fissa (2026) alongside works that document her sustained exploration of gesture, material and time (including Passameneria rossa, 2015 and Feltro rosso, 2025).

The year-long project includes tapestries, garments, installations, sculptures and site-specific works, many produced for this exhibition. The program highlights craft practices and poetic, often autobiographical aspects of textile art, offering a perspective that combines tradition, memory and contemporary concerns.

Curator: Alberto Fiz

This exhibition is a focused opportunity to experience how textile practices function as a language to interpret reality and social relations within contemporary Italian art.
