The Territorial Archaeological Museum of the Sorrentine Peninsula, "Georges Vallet", in Piano di Sorrento is set to receive the Fluss Collection, a group of archaeological finds including ceramics, statuary and other artifacts that testify to the area’s ancient past.
The Fluss Collection gathers materials assembled during the 20th century: items from local contexts such as Sottomonte, as well as objects linked to nearby sites like the villa of Agrippa Postumus and the Athenaion of Punta Campanella. Several pieces date between the 8th and 3rd centuries BCE, providing important evidence on settlement and exchange in the ancient Mediterranean.
Museum leadership and academic partners have confirmed the arrival of the collection and aim to make it accessible soon. The inauguration is hoped to coincide with the European Archaeology Days in mid-June, positioning Piano di Sorrento within the European archaeological calendar.
The acquisition is a cultural return for the Sorrentine Peninsula: the artifacts enrich the museum’s holdings and open new avenues for research and educational programs. Some items raise questions about provenance and collecting practices, prompting further study and cataloguing work.
The official announcement confirming the arrival of the Fluss Collection is dated 9 April 2026. The museum is finalizing installation details and related programming; visitors should check the museum’s official channels for confirmed opening dates and guided visit schedules.
