Patrick Saytour in Venice: "The Fold of Time"

The Fondazione dell'Albero d'Oro presents French artist Patrick Saytour in Italy for the first time with the exhibition The Fold of Time, hosted at Palazzo Vendramin Grimani. The show features roughly 60 canvases that investigate the relationship between gesture and material, employing folds, cuts, burn marks, tears, solarizations and stitches.

Saytour’s works are placed in direct conversation with historical pieces by Piero Manzoni, highlighting shared concerns such as the notion of a "grade zero" of painting and the tension between tabula rasa and the embrace of material presence.

What to see

  • Works: approximately 60 canvases with surface interventions (folds, holes, burn marks, stitching).
  • Artistic dialogue: a comparison with Piero Manzoni that enriches historical and conceptual reading.
  • Setting: the Renaissance architecture of Palazzo Vendramin Grimani frames the contrast between old and new.

Why visit

The exhibition invites reflection on the materiality of painting and the role of gesture in shaping contemporary artistic language. Saytour’s treated surfaces resist a single fixed form, proposing instead an existential spatiality that converses with the venue’s history.

Practical information

  • Venue: Palazzo Vendramin Grimani, Fondazione dell'Albero d'Oro, Venice.
  • Tickets and hours: check the Foundation's official website for up-to-date information on opening times, tickets and guided visits.

The show is recommended for those interested in contemporary art that interrogates the painted surface and the boundary between action and idea. For updates on opening days and related events, consult official communications from the Foundation.
