Barga turns into an open-air museum

From May 1 to September 30, 2026, the historic center of Barga (LU) becomes the setting for "The Visionaries", a dispersed exhibition by sculptor Emanuele Giannelli. The initiative installs monumental works in public and private spaces, creating a 24/7 accessible art trail.

The exhibition is promoted by the Municipality of Barga, the Tuscany Region, "I Borghi più belli d'Italia" association and Oxo Gallery, with the participation of local businesses such as restaurants and hospitality venues.

What to see and where

The artist's large, thought-provoking figures are placed throughout the village and the surrounding valley. Key locations include:

  • Porta Reale - Mr Arbitrium Mirrored, visible from afar;
  • Viale Marconi (octagonal square) - Korf, the tallest work overlooking the valley;
  • Palazzo Balduini and Menchi - Gravity, Sospeso and Mr. Kiribati;
  • Oxo Gallery (Piazza del Comune 5) - the core of the solo show with pieces suitable for both indoor and outdoor display;
  • Central venues - installations at Ristorante Da Alfonso, Scacciaguai, Wine Not? and the Art Boutique Hotel Acchiappasogni;
  • Outside the walls - additional works in the valley and at the Unipol office in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana and Fornaci di Barga.

Opening and practical information

The official opening is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 18:00 at Porta Reale, with a ribbon-cutting at Oxo Gallery at 19:00. The outdoor route is freely accessible at all hours, while indoor venues follow the gallery's and partner locations' opening times.

The exhibition is a chance to rediscover Barga through contemporary art: sculptures converse with historical architecture, attracting visitors and reinforcing the village's cultural appeal.

Who should visit

  • Contemporary art enthusiasts and public art audiences;
  • Tourists seeking cultural experiences in Tuscan villages;
  • Local residents interested in community-wide cultural events.
