Corinaldo Water Walk: springs, wells and the village’s history

On Sunday 19 April, the Corinaldo branch of Archeoclub d'Italia leads a guided walk focused on the theme of water in the historic village. Part of the second edition of Primavera dei Borghi d'Italia, the walk is a combined cultural, natural and archaeological trek led by Italo Pelinga and Eros Gregorini.

Meet at the Lavatoio delle Fonti at 4:30 PM. The itinerary will visit key water sites: civic wells, external springs, and the hydraulic works that supplied the community over the centuries.

Highlights

  • The Lavatoio delle Fonti, built between the 16th and 17th centuries and noted as a notable example of local hydraulic architecture.
  • Civic wells and historic springs, with references to past chemical analyses on water potability.
  • The Montesecco aqueduct (completed in 1894), which drew water from sources up to nineteen kilometres away.
  • The Church of the Incancellata in the Casalini area (also called Pozzo Antico), and the devotional traditions tied to a votive image and the well inside the church.

The walk provides a tangible perspective on how water influenced urban life: from public health and infrastructure investments to architectural and religious traces that mark the territory.
