More than 17,000 citizens signed a petition that helped unlock funding for the restoration of the pond within Parco degli Acquedotti. Supported by FAI through the "I luoghi del cuore" initiative, Retake, local authorities and private partners, the initiative secured a total investment of over €106,000 to rehabilitate and enhance the area.
The plan, named "Treesessanta: reading traces of the past to design the future", will be presented to the public on Wednesday 25 March at 12:00 at Cartiera Latina (Via Appia Antica 42), the headquarters of the Parco regionale dell’Appia Antica. The meeting will review the steps from the nomination and the 2024 "I luoghi del cuore" census to the secured funding and will outline the forthcoming actions.
Representatives from the regional park, Retake Rome and FAI Lazio, along with municipal officials and technical delegates, will take part. Architects Francesca Romana Poerio and Martina Di Egidio from R.T. ArchINpro will present the technical design and planned interventions.
This restoration is a practical example of how community engagement, non-profit initiatives and institutions can work together to protect and restore urban nature, improving both ecological quality and public enjoyment of green spaces.
