The Gabii Archaeological Park, covering about 20 hectares east of Rome, will be open on weekends from April 11 to July 5 under a special opening programme. The initiative aims to increase access to the site for residents and visitors and to better distribute cultural tourism across the city.
Gabii is one of the largest and least-known archaeological sites in Lazio. Larger than the Palatine Hill, it preserves evidence connected to Rome's early history and imperial phases, with finds that relate to both historical developments and foundational legends. Ongoing excavations with national and international universities continue to produce significant discoveries, including inscriptions and monumental structures.
The special opening project is financially supported by the partnering platform and forms part of a broader enhancement plan that has already seen public investments (around €10 million) to restore and promote the park. The initiative supports sustainable tourism goals and seeks to spread economic benefits more widely across the territory.
Meanwhile, the exhibition "Gabii: Origins" in Palestrina is open until 31 October 2026, displaying new finds from national museums that complement the archaeological narrative of the park.
