Palazzo Prosperi Vitelli reopens to the public after restoration

On Sunday 29 March 2026 the hilltop village of Citerna (PG) welcomes the reopening of Palazzo Prosperi Vitelli. Restored thanks to the work of the Pro Loco of Fighille, the palace will become the third venue of the Piccolomuseo di Fighille, a local network dedicated to contemporary art.

The Renaissance building complements the existing sites — the Dogana Pontificia and Palazzo Tani in Fighille — extending the museum’s reach and reinforcing the cultural connection between architecture, art and landscape.

Day programme

• 16:00 – Gathering at the Church of San Francesco with a musical greeting and institutional remarks (bishop, mayor, tourism councillor, parish representatives, Pro Loco and UNPLI Umbria officers).
• Talk by cultural journalist and curator Marco Botti: “Palazzo Prosperi Vitelli, for a new idea of the museum without walls”.
• Historical introduction by local guide Gilberto Presenti on the palace and the 16th‑century Fireplace of the Lovers.
• 18:00 – Ribbon cutting and official opening of the exhibitions.
• 19:00 – Aperitif in the cloister of the nearby Town Hall of Citerna.

Exhibitions on display

• "Verso la Luce" by Guerrino Bardeggia – 29 March to 3 May 2026: the choir area of the Church of San Francesco hosts a sacred cycle from 1985, placed in dialogue with the five‑century wooden choir and nearby Renaissance works.
• "The Madonna by Brancolini. Between Donatello and Piero, contemporary art converses with the Renaissance" by Edi Brancolini – 29 March to 11 October 2026 at Palazzo Prosperi Vitelli: a contemporary artist engages respectfully with the local Renaissance masterpieces and their legacy.
