Palazzo Ducale in Genoa presents the exhibition "Van Dyck l’europeo", bringing together 58 works that illustrate Anthony van Dyck's artistic path from Antwerp to Italy and the English court. Curated by an international team of scholars, the show highlights the painter's European scope and the decisive influence of Genoa on his portrait style.
The display occupies the Doge's Apartment and the Doge's Chapel and is organised into ten thematic sections rather than a strict chronological sequence, focusing on subject matter, stylistic shifts and cultural exchanges. Visitors will find court portraits, dramatic religious paintings and preparatory studies from major museums.
The show features key portraits, altarpieces and rare loans that together document Van Dyck's evolution. Several works underline his ties with Genoese patrons, while others trace his later role as official portraitist at the court of Charles I in London.
Location: Palazzo Ducale, Genoa.
Exhibition period: ongoing until 19 July 2026.
