Shared Horizons: Ragusa province youth councils meet in Vittoria

Broad participation and an enthusiastic atmosphere marked Shared Horizons, the meeting held on Saturday 18 April 2026 at the offices of the Vittoria Youth Council. Organized by the Vittoria council together with the Comiso youth council, delegations from nearly all municipalities of the Ragusa Free Consortium attended.

During the plenary session participants described their local realities and shared proposals on strategic topics for the area. The presence of the Free Consortium president, Maria Rita Schembari, helped strengthen dialogue between institutions and the new generations.

• Topics discussed: condition of provincially managed school buildings, promotion of sport and the third sector, youth and tourist mobility, valorisation of Comiso airport, enhancement of local university offerings.
• Key proposal: the creation of a provincial youth council to improve coordination and the impact of youth demands.
• Outcome: broad agreement among council presidents and a commitment to a follow-up meeting at the Provincial Palace to launch the initiative.

As Emanuele Battaglia, president of the Vittoria Youth Council, stated: “Youth councils are like a heartbeat for young people's participation: they keep interest alive and encourage concrete engagement in public life.” The shared aim is to build a stable pathway able to turn shared ideas into concrete proposals for the benefit of the entire province.
