Museimpresa grows: a new entry from Apulia

The national network Museimpresa now counts over 150 corporate museums and archives with the addition of the Piero and Salvatore Leone de Castris museum, linked to the historic winery in Salice Salentino. The association connects institutional collections across Italy to preserve industrial and cultural heritage and make it available to the public.

About the Leone de Castris museum

Opened in 2009 and located on the upper floor of the production site, the museum documents the company's and the region's production history. In roughly 1,000 square metres it houses vintage machinery, work tools, carriages and winery equipment, alongside historic bottles and original documents that chart more than a century of winemaking activity.

Highlights include dated vintages from the 1920s to the 1950s, archival photographs and official documents that demonstrate the company's ties with the local community.

Museimpresa's objectives

The association aims to protect and promote corporate archives and museums while encouraging quality standards. Key goals include:

  • networking museums and corporate archives to increase visibility;
  • facilitating knowledge exchange among companies, cultural institutions and the public;
  • supporting research, training and development in corporate museology;
  • encouraging institutional investment to safeguard industrial and documentary heritage.

Other noteworthy food and wine institutions

Museimpresa brings together numerous food and wine museums and historical archives representing local and national excellence. These institutions preserve equipment, packaging, labels and company records that illustrate the evolution of production and branding.

Benefits for visitors and the territory

Corporate museums such as the Leone de Castris site provide insight into the economic and social history of their regions. By opening these collections to the public, companies help build collective memory, promote understanding of production chains and support cultural wine tourism.
