Mubit: the Italian Basketball Museum opens in Bologna with free entry on inauguration day

On Saturday 18 April the Mubit opens at PalaDozza (Piazza Azzarita, corner of Via Calori). Admission will be free for the opening day, but prior registration is mandatory via the official website: mubit.it.

The inaugural exhibition, titled “Italbasket, over 100 years of an endless blue,” traces the achievements and history of Italy’s men's and women's national teams from 1921 to the present, showcasing jerseys, match balls, memorabilia and interactive audiovisual content.

Practical information for visitors

  • Opening day: Saturday 18 April (free admission with reservation). Museum opens to the public from 15:15.
  • Location: PalaDozza, Piazza Azzarita (corner of Via Calori), Bologna.
  • Reservation: mandatory for the inauguration day; register via mubit.it.
  • Public celebration: Piazza Azzarita will host basketball-themed events throughout the day.

Hours and ticketing (from 19 April)

  • Opening days: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
  • Hours: 11:00–18:00.
  • Full ticket: €5.
  • Reduced ticket: €3 (under 16, over 65, FIP members, registered sportspeople, Bologna Welcome Card and Card Cultura holders).
  • Free entry: children under 5, visitors with disabilities and one companion, school group chaperones, sports teams and tour guides.

The displays include important historical items—such as match balls and player shirts—alongside video and interactive installations. On the opening day guests from the basketball world may attend the celebrations.

Visitor tips: reserve your slot in advance at mubit.it, arrive a little early to complete entry procedures, and check the museum website for any updates on schedules or special events.
