Pontassieve: historic centre works starting after the holidays

The Municipality of Pontassieve will start a set of targeted interventions in the week following the Easter holidays to enhance the appearance and safety of the historic centre. These measures form part of a broader plan covering the area from the Clock Tower to the Medici Bridge and aim to improve everyday life for residents, businesses and visitors.

Planned interventions

  • Stone curb repairs in Piazza XIV Martiri and adjustment of the architectural stones near the trees.
  • Tree pruning in the square, carried out with the support of the local cooperative bank (BCC Pontassieve).
  • Partial repaving of sections of Via Ghiberti, scheduled in stages to maintain traffic flow.
  • Installation of new street furniture (bins and planters), notably along Via Ghiberti near Piazza Boetani.
  • Replacement of damaged traffic bollards where needed to protect pedestrians and define spaces.

Operational and financial details

The current programme is backed by an investment of €30,000, integrated into a larger initiative that already saw two intervention phases in 2025 (new and renewed pavements on extensive sections of Via Ghiberti) costing around €150,000. Works will be carried out in segments so as not to require full road closures: vehicle traffic is not expected to be suspended.

Objectives

The interventions aim to:

  • improve the urban appearance of the historic village;
  • increase safety and accessibility for pedestrians;
  • enhance the centre for residents, shopkeepers and visitors;
  • renew street furniture and address worn pavement sections.

For updates on the works and any temporary traffic arrangements, check official communications from the Municipality of Pontassieve.
