Lucio Riva Exhibition at Complesso di San Paolo (Modena)

Dates: from 18 April to 2 June 2026. Opening: Saturday 18 April, 6:00 PM.

The exhibition, curated by Marco Pierini with Costanza Neve, is organized by the cultural association "Ricognizioni sull'Arte" with the support of the Municipality of Modena. It occupies the former church and the Sala delle Monache within the Complesso di San Paolo.

What to expect

On display are approximately 130 works including paintings, assemblages and archival sketchbooks. Works come from private collections and the artist's family, offering a broad overview of Riva's development from early figurative phases to his mature abstract-informal explorations and assemblage techniques.

  • Techniques: painting, assemblage using reclaimed everyday objects, antique and vintage items.
  • Materials: canvases, grouped works and notebooks; some sketchbooks can be browsed via tablets provided for visitors.
  • Themes: everyday life reimagined, symbolic layering and a deliberate sense of wonder.

Born in Campogalliano (Modena) on 18 January 1928, Lucio Riva is noted for blending painterly tradition with material experimentation. This exhibition celebrates his career and aims to introduce his distinctive artistic language to a wider and younger audience.
