Dreamers: Erwin Wurm at Museo Fortuny in Venice

From 6 May to 22 November 2026 Museo Fortuny in Venice presents Dreamers, a wide-ranging solo exhibition by Erwin Wurm, one of the leading figures in contemporary sculpture. Curated by Elisabetta Barisoni and Cristina Da Roit, the show examines the relationship between body, object and identity, expanding conventional sculptural boundaries.

Highlights

The exhibition is organised around key themes from Wurm's practice:

  • One Minute Sculptures: installed on the second floor, these works invite visitors to perform actions or adopt poses with everyday objects (chairs, books, bottles). The sculpture exists in the brief action and is preserved mainly through photographic documentation.
  • Dreamers: works that turn common items into anthropomorphic, oversized or unstable forms, evoking dreamlike and unconscious states.
  • Substitutes: garments and shells that retain traces of a now-absent presence, exploring the garment as sculptural extension of the body (recent bronzes from the Shadow series are included).

Why go

The exhibition creates a dialogue between contemporary works and the historic fabric of the museum, turning the site into a dynamic environment where container and content influence each other. Wurm's characteristic irony and paradox prompt reflections on identity, corporeality and everyday life, offering visitors opportunities for interaction and thought.
