Nestled in a large flat area at an altitude of over 900 metres, Morgex occupies a privileged position in the heart of the Valdigne, a stone's throw from the renowned ski resorts of Courmayeur and La Thuile, connected by the picturesque Colle San Carlo. This small alpine village surprises visitors with its unique combination of mountains and viticulture: here, the vineyards climb up to 1,200 metres, producing the famous DOC Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle, known as “the highest wine in Europe”. The spectacular profile of Mont Blanc dominates the landscape, among picturesque villages, woods and expanses of vineyards, while Morgex also charms with its artistic and gastronomic offerings, an authentic expression of the culture and tradition of the Aosta Valley.
What to see in Morgex
In the heart of Morgex stands the Tour de l'Archet, an imposing 10th-century tower, one of the oldest in the region. Inside, it houses the Natalino Sapegno Foundation, a centre for literary studies with numerous activities for the public, and the Bibliomuseo del fumetto, a true paradise for graphic novel enthusiasts. Also not to be missed is the parish church of S.M. Assunta, with its Baroque altar, 15th and 16th century frescoes and a museum of sacred art that recounts centuries of religious history.
Nature lovers can enjoy walks and outdoor sports, with their gaze turned towards Mont Blanc. From peaceful walks in the valley or in the Marais nature reserve to excursions through vineyards and wineries, the possibilities are endless. Climbing up towards Colle San Carlo, one of the most evocative views of the Valdigne opens up, with the possibility of walks to Lake Arpy or trekking to other hills and lakes at higher altitudes, suitable for both beginners and more experienced hikers.
