Monumenti Aperti 2026 in Alghero: free visits on May 16–17

On Saturday May 16 and Sunday May 17, 2026 Alghero takes part in Monumenti Aperti, the initiative dedicated to promoting the city's historical and artistic heritage. The national event, now in its 30th edition and the 24th edition in Alghero, opens churches, towers, museums and other monumental sites to the public.

Access and organization: entry to participating sites is free. Guided tours are led by volunteers and local students, offering engaging and informative visits. Some locations require visitors to present a valid ID.

What to see: main openings and times

The programme includes 31 monuments and 9 themed routes. Below is a selection of key sites with notable opening times.

  • Torre di Porta Terra – Guided visits by students: Saturday and Sunday 10:00–13:00 and 16:00–20:00.
  • Cattedrale di Santa Maria (Cathedral) – Afternoon guided visits: Saturday and Sunday 15:00–18:00.
  • Teatro Civico “Gavì Ballero” – Nineteenth-century atmospheres recreated with theatre activities: Saturday 10:00–13:00 and 16:00–20:00; Sunday 10:00–13:00 and 16:00–18:30.
  • MACOR – Coral Museum – Visits and coral-working demonstrations: Saturday and Sunday 10:00–13:00 and 15:00–20:00.
  • Complesso Monumentale di San Francesco – Saturday 09:00–13:00 and 14:00–17:00; Sunday 12:00–18:00.
  • Forte della Maddalena – NEW: faithful reproduction of a historical Spanish boat on display; guided tours every 60 minutes in Italian and English tours at 10:00, 11:00 and 12:00. Opening hours: Saturday and Sunday 09:30–13:30 and 15:30–19:30.
  • Casa di Reclusione G. Tommasiello – Visits require valid ID: Saturday and Sunday 10:00–20:00.
