On Saturday 14 March at 17:00, the Sala Grande of the Accademia Valdarnese del Poggio in Montevarchi will host the presentation of Alessio Mugnai's volume, which reconstructs the ancient road network in the area linking Arezzo, Fiesole and Florence.
Archaeologist Fabrizio Paolucci, director of the Department of Classical Antiquities at the Uffizi Galleries, will take part in the discussion. The book is published by the Accademia Valdarnese del Poggio with support from Associazione D’Arno – Friends of the Museums and Monuments of the Upper Valdarno.
The study covers the north‑western portion of the Arezzo plain, the entire Upper Valdarno and the eastern sector of the Florence plain, including much of the Ripoli plateau. The chronological scope ranges from prehistory to the late Roman period and offers reconstructions of principal itineraries, highlighting major consular arteries such as the Via Clodia and the Via Cassia, alongside a dense network of locally significant routes.
The volume is part of the series "Quaderni del Centro Studi e Documentazione del Valdarno Superiore", directed by Carlo Fabbri, and is intended as a research and heritage promotion tool for the Valdarno area. The event is aimed at scholars, heritage professionals and anyone interested in local archaeological history.
