Monte Bibele: new plan to revitalize the archaeological park in Monterenzio

The Monte Bibele Archaeological-Natural Park, located in Monterenzio (BO), is undergoing a restructuring project aimed at strengthening protection, visitor access and the cultural offer. Planned measures cover governance updates and practical interventions on infrastructure and programming.

Governance and objectives

Recent administrative decisions foresee the revocation of the agreement with the University of Bologna and consider entrusting management to a local association in partnership with the Municipality. The main objectives are:

  • continuous archaeological research;
  • preservation and enhancement of finds;
  • medium- and long-term cultural promotion.

Planned interventions

To make the site safer and more accessible, the following actions are planned:

  • Cultural programme: a schedule of lectures, guided tours and outreach activities already planned for the coming months.
  • Seasonal events: participation in the Yunka Festival with an autumn repeat to extend the event season.
  • Transport services: municipal shuttle services on event days to improve connections between Monterenzio and the park.
  • Infrastructure: restoration of damaged roads and trails, safety measures funded partly by PNRR and local contributions.
  • Local planning: the 2026-2028 Single Programming Document highlights promotion of the Fantini Museum and infrastructure consolidation as priorities.

Practical tips for visitors

Before visiting, always check the official calendar published by the Municipality or the managing association. In particular, verify:

  • times and arrangements for guided tours;
  • availability of shuttles on event days;
  • condition of trails and accessibility, especially after bad weather;
  • any openings or activities at the Fantini Museum linked to events in the park.
