Galleria Monitor, Rome. On view until 18 April 2026, Measuring the Sun is the artist's first solo exhibition in Italy. The show assembles site‑specific works that make solar rays and celestial paths perceptible within the gallery space.
Escher employs modest, natural materials — fabric dyed with earth pigments, red and white clays, oxides and copper wire — to rework ancient methods of tracking time and the sun's position. The exhibition investigates the Sun–Earth relationship and the historical devices used to mark hours and seasons.
Highlights of the presentation include:
A central work, In viagem do sol – sun’s journey (2026), asks visitors to traverse the piece, altering the perceived celestial balance and reversing the customary passive relation between humans and the Star. Escher transforms astronomical observation into an accessible contemporary‑art language.
Practical note: the exhibition is on view at Galleria Monitor's Rome location until 18 April 2026. Check the gallery's opening hours and visiting conditions before attending.
