On the heights of the Lavarone Plateau, surrounded by pristine woods and meadows that in summer burst into a thousand colors, Luserna rises as one of the most fascinating villages of the region.
Its charm comes from the deep bond between nature and the history of a community that has proudly preserved its identity.
Walking through the cobbled alleys of the village, ancient stone houses alternate with magnificent flowered balconies, while the gaze drifts toward the valleys that suddenly appear between the little houses.
A place of tranquility and emotions, where every visitor is enchanted by the magnificent views and splendid colors that frame the village, leaving behind unforgettable memories.
What to See in Luserna
The village preserves a small yet priceless architectural heritage. The Luserna Documentation Center is a museum, a starting point for discovering the history and local traditions, particularly the Cimbrian culture, which represents the authentic soul of this community.
A must-see is Forte Werk Lusén, a former Austro-Hungarian fortress built during the First World War, regarded by the community as an “eternal father” because it was able to withstand the harsh bombardments of the war.
Not to be missed is the “Path from Stories to History,” a thematic trail featuring 28 metal silhouettes enriched with artistic terracotta details, narrating true episodes that took place in Luserna before and after the First World War.
Traditions and Events
Luserna is the beating heart of Cimbrian culture, a community that over the centuries has managed to pass down its language, customs, and traditions. Every year the village celebrates its identity with folkloric events featuring dances, music, and traditional gastronomy. Among the most heartfelt is the Cimbrian Culture Festival, during which the village comes alive in every street with typical songs, traditional dances, and tastings of local products.
Another deeply felt event is Bruciare di Marzo (“Burning of March”), held on the last Saturday of February. It recalls the custom of children going into the woods to collect wood, stacking it into piles that were set on fire on the night between the last day of February and the first of March. The event is repeated with a procession from the village up to the Cross, where the main bonfire is lit.
During the Christmas season, the well-known Natale alla Haus Prükk brings the famous Cimbrian house, Haus von Prükk, back to life, telling the story of daily activities of the past thanks to actors who recreate an authentic and vivid atmosphere.
Exploring the Surroundings
Beyond the village, the surroundings of Luserna offer countless opportunities for mountain lovers. Hiking trails lead to Austro-Hungarian forts, silent witnesses of the First World War, and to viewpoints that open up toward the Dolomites.
Luserna offers exploratory routes suitable for all kinds of adventurers, from the youngest to the oldest, allowing days immersed in unspoiled nature among the mountains, also thanks to picnic areas.
Not far away are destinations such as Lavarone and Folgaria, known for their ski slopes and cultural offerings linked to the Great War.
Luserna is a mountain retreat waiting to be explored and experienced, capable of offering knowledge and sensitivity through its history and landscapes—an invitation to embark on a journey filled with emotions and splendid colors.
