Luca Catalano Gonzaga — Wildlife and Communities Bonds: Thin Boundaries

Photographer and documentarist Luca Catalano Gonzaga presents a solo exhibition in the Elephants Hall at Rome's Bioparco. The project examines the delicate relationships between local communities and threatened wildlife. Through images from five distinct reportages, the exhibition highlights both the beauty and the vulnerability of the natural balances that sustain human–nature coexistence.

Produced in collaboration with WWF Italy, the series of photographs documents conservation efforts, local practices for living alongside wildlife, and environmental pressures that threaten habitats and species.

Featured places and themes

  • Dzanga-Sangha Forest (Central African Republic) — the Baka people and their coexistence with forest species such as gorillas and forest elephants.
  • Bhutan — elephant movements and elusive large predators within protected areas.
  • Pakistan — challenges faced by snow leopards as glacier melt forces them to lower elevations.
  • Mesola Plateau (Italy) — conservation initiatives for the Italian deer (cervo italico).
  • Molfetta — collaboration between local fishermen and conservation programs to protect sea turtles.

Practical information

  • Venue: Bioparco Multifunctional Centre, Viale del Giardino Zoologico — pedestrian entrance Villa Borghese (intersection Via Aldrovandi - Viale Rossini), Rome.
  • Public opening dates: April 2–21, 2026.
  • Vernissage: April 1, 2026, 18:30 (invitation only).
  • Admission: the exhibition is included with the Bioparco ticket.

The photographs provide more than visual evidence: they tell the stories of communities that share territories with vulnerable species and highlight practical approaches to protect both people and wildlife. The exhibition is recommended for visitors interested in biodiversity, conservation and real-world examples of human–nature coexistence.
