The new film by Ancona-born director Saverio Smeriglio, produced by Imago Animae with national co-producers, was shot mainly in Ancona and Cupra Marittima. Distributed by Medusa Film, the feature opens in Italian cinemas on April 16.
The story treats disability not as a limitation but as a dimension of life and storytelling. For the first time in Italy the film is presented to audiences in a single subtitled version, a deliberate choice to increase accessibility and make the cinema experience more inclusive.
Regional landscapes and locations play a central role: Ancona locations include the Mole Vanvitelliana, Piazza del Plebiscito, Portonovo, Clinica Nemo and INRCA. Cupra Marittima contributes sea views, beaches and countryside scenes; other recognizable spots include Montemonaco, Foce and Lake Gerosa.
The film has already won international recognition: first prize at the San Francisco International Film Festival, selection at the S.Louis International Film Festival, and an "Honorable Mention" at the Houston Festival; it is also in competition at the BARCIIF in Barcelona.
Preview screenings with the cast have been scheduled in the Marche region, including Grottammare and Ancona (Cinema Goldoni), with further showings planned across local towns. The production counts on the support of numerous associations and institutions working in social and disability fields, underscoring a commitment to combine quality cinema, inclusion and territorial promotion.
