Stratigraphies of the Living — Giulia Mangoni’s first solo at MAC Lissone

From 23 May to 27 September 2026, the MAC - Museo d'Arte Contemporanea in Lissone (MB) hosts Stratigraphies of the Living, the first museum solo exhibition by Italian-Brazilian artist Giulia Mangoni, curated by Stefano Raimondi.

The exhibition is organized as a layered journey: images, materials and practices accumulate and transform to propose an understanding of the living not as separate entities but as an interconnected network shaped by memories, survivals and change. The project unfolds across the entire museum, juxtaposing artisanal, symbolic, natural and industrial layers as interdependent parts of a single complex reality.

What to expect

  • Paintings and works that weave landscape, figures and religious iconography reinterpreted in a contemporary key.
  • Collaborations with local artisans, breeders and communities, particularly from the Ciociaria region.
  • An installation approach that functions as a temporal device: visual strata suggesting continuity and transformation.

Mangoni’s practice begins with attentive listening to place: local archives, oral histories and everyday materials are reworked into paintings that act as surfaces of translation and metamorphosis. Her works construct a hybrid vocabulary where the sacred, the material and the symbolic coexist without strict hierarchies.

Practical information

  • Dates: 23 May - 27 September 2026
  • Venue: MAC - Museo d'Arte Contemporanea, Lissone (MB), Italy
  • Curator: Stefano Raimondi
  • Catalogue: published by Silvana Editoriale; presentation planned during the exhibition

Artist note

Giulia Mangoni (Isola del Liri, 1991) focuses on painting and territorial belonging. Her recent projects and solo shows in Italy and abroad have explored archives, landscapes and local practices, positioning her among the notable emerging voices in contemporary Italian painting.

The MAC of Lissone continues its commitment to supporting significant contemporary artistic research by dedicating a museum-scale project to an artist who bridges local roots and international perspective.
