Carlo Maria Mariani — The Signs of the Times

The Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte in Naples hosts an exhibition dedicated to Carlo Maria Mariani built around the donation of the painting I Segni dei Tempi (2019). Curated by Antonio Martino and Andrea Viliani, the show places eight of Mariani’s paintings in conversation with selected objects from the museum’s collections.

• Supporting material: editorial documents and rare volumes accompany the critical narrative

The exhibition highlights Mariani’s layered figurative research, where classical forms — from sculpture to Renaissance and Neoclassicism — meet twentieth-century avant-garde references. The juxtaposition emphasizes the intellectual and metaphysical aspects of his practice.

Works in the show also establish a dialogue with Naples’ visual history, reinterpreting formal motifs and urban atmospheres. A catalogue published by Éditions Lord Byron is available.
