The Echo of Artemis: a dialogue at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN)

Period: 13 May - 8 June 2026

The National Archaeological Museum of Naples presents "The Echo of Artemis", an installation in the Atrium that places the Artemide of Ephesus (2nd century AD) alongside an 18th-century biscuit attributed to Filippo Tagliolini, newly acquired by the Museum and the Royal Park of Capodimonte.

  • Venue: MANN Atrium
  • Key works: Artemide of Ephesus in alabaster and bronze; biscuit "The Sacrifice to Diana of Ephesus" (c. 1790) by Filippo Tagliolini
  • Purpose: to highlight the relationship between an ancient cult statue and its 18th-century porcelain reinterpretation, offering insight into how ancient images influenced later artistic production.

The Artemide statue, originally part of the Farnese Collection, carries bronze restorations from its 18th-century transfer to Naples. The displayed biscuit evokes the output of the Royal Factory of Naples, often inspired by classical sculptures brought to the city from Farnese holdings and Vesuvian excavations.

This short exhibition is the first step in a joint curatorial project between local museums and precedes the scheduled opening of porcelain galleries at the Royal Park and Museum of Capodimonte on 12 June 2026.
