Filippo de Pisis and les Italiens de Paris — exhibition in Lecce

Venue: Fondazione Biscozzi | Rimbaud ETS, piazzetta Giorgio Baglivi 4, Lecce, Italy.

Dates: the exhibition runs until 10 May 2026 and will be open exceptionally on Sunday 5 April (Easter) and Monday 6 April (Easter Monday) 2026.

Curated by Paolo Bolpagni and Maddalena Tibertelli de Pisis, the show examines the Italiens de Paris — a circle of Italian artists in Paris who embraced a modern, Mediterranean-influenced classicism. The display focuses on Filippo de Pisis and a core group of works produced between the mid-1920s and the early 1930s.

  • Key work: Dalie (1932), featured in the exhibition’s entrance hall.
  • Exhibition core: a selection of more than twenty works by de Pisis contrasted with paintings by other members of the Groupe des Sept (Campigli, de Chirico, Paresce, Savinio, Severini, Tozzi).
  • Rarely seen pieces in Italy: three works from the Musée de Grenoble, including two de Pisis paintings (I due pesci and Il piede romano, both 1927) and Mario Tozzi’s Natura morta (Katinka, 1932).

The itinerary highlights the group’s international dialogue, stylistic plurality and formal freedom, contextualised by critics and dealers of the time.

Practical tips:

  • Check the Foundation’s official opening hours before visiting;
