Inventiamo Segesta: children's workshop at the Archaeological Park

To mark World Theatre Day, the Segesta Archaeological Park became a creative workshop for children. The opening event of “Inventiamo Segesta: Little designers for great architectures” attracted many local families, offering a practical introduction to history, architecture and theatre through play.

• Organisers: ABACA – School of Architecture and Design for Children, in collaboration with CoopCulture.
• Workshop leader: architect Federica Turiaco, who presented the Ancient Theatre using a scale model and discussed its structure, meaning and the link between people, nature and landscape.
• Activities: children created collages and pop-ups depicting deities, animals, flowers, clouds and local traditional elements; these works were added to the model, turning it into a shared imaginative space.
• Site visit: the hands-on session was followed by a guided visit to the archaeological area, attended also by parents, to connect the workshop with the real monument.

The programme continues with two further workshops:

• 19 April – “Di-segni Stra-ordinari”: children will complete half-images of the Temple of Segesta with imagination and transform drawings into scaled models.
• 17 May – “Archeo-Logico”: a workshop focused on geometry and the construction of stage sets.

Participation: free. Registration is available via the CoopCulture website or the Segesta Archaeological Park Facebook page, until places are filled.

ABACA is Italy’s first initiative dedicated to architectural, design and landscape education for children aged 6–12, supported by organisations including ISIA Rome Design, Fondazione Architetti del Mediterraneo and Fondazione Simonetta Bastelli, and recently awarded the "Energie per Roma 2025" recognition.
