Medici Villas on Your Phone: the Official App for the UNESCO Site

Autore: Redazione 11/05/2026 15:16

Medici Villas on Your Phone

The official mobile app for the UNESCO serial site of the Medici Villas and Gardens in Tuscany has been launched. Designed to provide an integrated visitor experience, the app combines multimedia content and practical information to support sustainable travel and reveal lesser-known areas.

What the app provides

  • Multimedia content: photos and 360° videos to explore the villas remotely.
  • Interactive maps and themed routes guiding users across the 14 villas and gardens.
  • Suggested itineraries (e.g. Alta Versilia, from Florence to Mugello, The Montalbano Villas) promoting slow tourism.
  • Integration with soft mobility and public transport data (buses and trains) to make visits practical and eco-friendly.
  • A research-backed database with curated information on history, architecture and site use.

Why use it

The app aims to enhance the idea of a "widespread Tuscany": tools to distribute visitor flows across multiple sites, support repeat visitors in expanding their itineraries and encourage less crowded enjoyment of UNESCO places. It is suitable for tourists and locals who want to deepen their knowledge of the Medici heritage and gardens.

Project partners

The initiative is the result of a collaboration between the Tuscany Region, the Department of Architecture of the University of Florence (HeRe Lab) and a private tech company. Funding comes from the Ministry of Culture with regional co-funding, bringing together scientific research, tourism promotion and digital technology.

How to download

The app is free and available in digital stores and on the official Medici Villas and Gardens website. It is a practical tool to plan visits, check opening times and transport connections, and discover less frequented routes in Tuscany.
