Laura Sammartino appointed Commissioner for Agrigento and head of Culture and Tourism

The movement Italia del Meridione has announced the appointment of Laura Sammartino as Commissioner for the city and province of Agrigento and as Head of the Department for Culture, Entertainment, Tourism and Territorial Vitality. The designation, announced on April 10, 2026, aims to reinforce the movement's presence in Sicily by relying on consolidated skills in tourism and service management.

With more than 17 years of professional experience in the sector, Sammartino said she accepts the role with "enthusiasm and a sense of responsibility," emphasizing the intent to enhance the territory and promote a development model centered on culture, tourism and youth participation.

  • Heritage enhancement: initiatives to systematize cultural and landscape assets in the Agrigento province.
  • Tourism promotion: measures to boost the area's attractiveness and support local cultural and hospitality offers.
  • Youth engagement: programs to encourage young people’s participation in cultural and creative activities.
  • Territorial networks: strengthening coordination among local authorities, cultural operators and third-sector organizations.

Federal Secretary Vincenzo Castellano expressed confidence in the appointment, describing it as a step toward "building a lively, skilled and rooted territorial network." Sammartino announced her intention to begin immediately with "tangible work based on listening, participation and operational actions" to realize local potential.
