Langhe, Roero and Monferrato: villages turn into an open-air museum

Langhe, Roero and Monferrato: en plein air art across the villages

Between May and November 2026 a regional initiative converts over 60 villages in the Piedmont hills into a widespread open-air museum. Site-specific installations, exhibitions and artist residencies engage with historic architecture, rural landscapes and local communities to form a distributed cultural route.

What to expect

  • Contemporary art trails integrated into urban and rural settings, featuring both permanent and temporary works.
  • Artist residencies culminating in public presentations (note: some events have fixed dates in May).
  • Site-specific interventions in villages such as Resté (Diano d’Alba, Montelupo Albese, Rodello, Cerretto Langhe), Roddino, Neviglie, Govone, Canelli and other smaller centers.
  • Projects addressing sustainability and landscape protection, with works displayed in town centres and unique venues like the historic underground cellars of Canelli.

Why visit

This programme is a chance to discover lesser-known villages and to explore territorial identity through contemporary art: works are designed to interact with cultural landscapes and to involve residents through participatory activities.

Practical tips for visitors

  • Plan your travel: exhibitions are spread across multiple municipalities; renting a car or checking local transport helps reach remote sites.
  • Verify exact event dates, since some activities take place on specific days (for example, public showings of residencies in May).
  • Join guided tours and artist talks to gain deeper insight into the projects.
  • Respect local settings: many installations are integrated into public spaces and community life.
