Piero di Cosimo’s Magdalene at Palazzo Venezia

From 17 April to 5 July 2026, VIVE - Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia presents the exhibition "Piero di Cosimo's Magdalene: art, history and women's lives in Renaissance Florence". The show centers on a rare panel by Piero di Cosimo, lent by the Gallerie Nazionali d'Arte Antica, and reconstructs the everyday world of Florentine women through objects and documents.

What to expect

The exhibition pairs the Magdalene painting with more than sixty items — textiles, ceramics, glass, jewelry, manuscripts and furnishings — to map the cultural and material context of the late 15th century. The route is organised into sections addressing iconography and style, women's life stages and the technical excellence of Renaissance decorative arts.

Activities and services

The exhibition includes a substantial educational offering: video installations, a multimedia room and workshops for children and schools. Guided tours and a calendar of events run throughout the exhibition; a highlighted event is the performance "Maddalena c’est moi" with Iaia Forte on 29 May 2026.

Curators and project

Curated by Edith Gabrielli with historical consultants, the project is interdisciplinary and coordinates contributions from museums, archives and scholars to connect painting with Florentine craftsmanship and to showcase Palazzo Venezia's decorative arts collections.
