La Capannina di Franceschi: the timeless myth of Versilia

Autore: Redazione 28/08/2025 11:38

In the heart of Forte dei Marmi, La Capannina di Franceschi represents an enduring icon of Italian social life. Born in 1929 from the intuition of Achille Franceschi, who transformed an old beach hut into an elegant gathering place with a bar counter, gramophone, and card tables, La Capannina immediately won over an elite audience, helping to make Versilia one of the most sought-after tourist destinations.

In the 1930s, sipping a Negroni at sunset in La Capannina’s hall became a true trend. Nobles and leading intellectuals, from Montale to Ungaretti, would meet within its walls. After the 1938 fire, the venue was rebuilt in 1939, preserving its original charm, and with the economic boom it became a stage for great industrialists, politicians, movie stars, and royal families.

The myth of La Capannina grew stronger in the 1970s, when Gherardo Guidi and his wife Carla took over its management. Since then, the venue has hosted Italian and international artists who have made music and entertainment history: from Gino Paoli to Ray Charles, from Gloria Gaynor to Ornella Vanoni. Songs that became part of the collective imagination, such as Sapore di sale or Pinne, fucile ed occhiali, found here the place of their consecration.

Today, La Capannina continues to be a landmark of Versilia’s and Italy’s nightlife. Its winning formula combines disco nights with major live shows: on stage perform some of the most acclaimed bands of the national scene, while on the dance floor people move to current hits and timeless classics. A tradition that renews itself without losing its original soul, confirming La Capannina as a symbol of elegance, glamour, and entertainment.
