Villa e Collezione Panza in Varese hosts Josef Albers: Meditations, an exhibition featuring twenty-nine works that illuminate Albers' long-standing research into color and perception. The selection includes loans from major public and private collections in Europe and the United States, with several rarely shown pieces.
The exhibition is organized as a perceptual itinerary rather than a chronological retrospective. The villa's rooms are integral to the display, encouraging visitors to engage with the works in a contemplative and measured way.
Visitors will move through spaces that highlight subtle light tones, vibrant contrasts of orange and pink against cooler hues, and denser gradations of gray, brown and black. The display foregrounds how color interactions alter perception, a theme central to Albers' practice.
Check the Villa e Collezione Panza official website for opening hours, ticketing and program updates. The exhibition rewards unhurried viewing: allow sufficient time to appreciate individual works and their spatial relationships.
