"The World Is One": 19 artists in Trapani reinterpret Yannis Ritsoss

"The World Is One": a dialogue between poetry and visual art in Trapani

Opening: April 17, 2026 at 7:00 PM at Oratorio San Rocco Museum of Contemporary Art, Trapani.

"The World Is One" brings together the poetic voice of Yannis Ritsos and the contemporary practices of 19 artists. Curated by Francesco Piazza with scientific consultancy from Amanda Skamagka (University of Athens), the exhibition springs from the Trittico Italiano (Trasfusione; Il mondo E8 uno; La statua sotto la pioggia), works Ritsos produced during his travels across Italy between 1976 and 1980.

The participating artists do not illustrate the poems; rather, they take them as points of departure, translating poetic tension into visual inquiry that reflects on memory, resistance and environmental and social fractures in the present.

Curator Francesco Piazza describes the poetic text as a refracting lens: the landscape that emerges is not mere backdrop but a field of forces where beauty and decay, memory and oblivion intersect. The artists encounters with Ritsos poems create an attentive practice that addresses contemporary ruptures and imagines alternative narratives.

Support and production: the project is sponsored by the Greek Embassy in Italy and supported by the Fondazione Orestiadi di Gibellina. Production and installation are by MarabF9 Eventi e Servizi (Palermo), which implemented display solutions in recyclable cardboard and renewable-sourced materials to minimize environmental impact. The exhibition is presented in collaboration with Oratorio San Rocco Museum of Contemporary Art, Trapani and Galleria Nomadartcollective, Sambuca di Sicilia.
