Naples reopens the Cimitero delle Fontanelle: inauguration and community march in Rione Sanità

The Cimitero delle Fontanelle, one of Naples' most emblematic sites, was reopened to the public on April 18 with a ceremony and a "Community March" involving local residents and cultural operators.

The site, closed for years due to structural issues, underwent consolidation works that enabled its definitive reopening. Around 500 people took part in the event.

• Attendees: Archbishop Don Mimmo Battaglia, Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, Regional Culture Councillor Ninni Cutaia, representatives of the La Paranza cooperative and the Rione Sanità community.
• Scale and significance: the former ossuary covers more than 3,000 sqm and is known for the ritual of the "anime pezzentelle," a local practice of care and remembrance for the dead.
• Cultural tourism: local officials report a surge in bookings, with hundreds of visitors already registered.
