The Signs of the Times: Carlo Maria Mariani at the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte

From Thursday 16 April to 14 July 2026 the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte in Naples presents the donation and exhibition of Carlo Maria Mariani's painting The Signs of the Times (2019, oil on canvas, 91.5 x 91.5 cm), accompanied by a curated tribute to the artist by Antonio Martino and Andrea Viliani.

The exhibition honors the generous donation of the canvas by the Carlo Maria Mariani and Carol Lane Mariani Foundation of New York and places the work within a broader display that includes seven additional works by the artist and a selection of objects from the museum's collections. The installation highlights Mariani's conceptual focus: the interplay between the formal legacy of classicism (notably Raphael) and the intellectual intensity of conceptual art (with references to Marcel Duchamp).

In the donated painting Mariani places Duchamp's Bottle Rack within a pictorial space recalling Raphael's Loggia of Love and Psyche, creating a meeting point between tradition and experiment. The exhibition thus presents a wide view of the artist's figurative research, affirming his position in recent Italian contemporary art.

Also announced is a tribute exhibition in Milan at Palazzo Citterio, scheduled from 8 October 2026 to 10 January 2027.
