The Savoys: A Thousand Years of History and Power — Exhibition at Contessa Adelaide Castle

On Friday, April 3 at 17:00 the exhibition "The Savoys. A Thousand Years of History and Power" opens at the Contessa Adelaide Castle – Civic Museum of Susa. The show, on display until May 24, presents the Savoie.live collection for the first time in Italy, featuring more than 40 original documents and artifacts that trace the Savoy dynasty across eight centuries.

Curated by Stefano Paschero (director of the Civic Museum of Susa) and Claude Duffur (founder of Savoie.live), the exhibition is organised into six thematic sections that examine how the House of Savoy constructed and maintained power:

• Cartography as a political tool
• Dynastic legitimacy
• Law and state administration
• Military force and the Risorgimento
• Religious devotion and social identity
• Culture as a living legacy

Highlights include 17th–18th century Dutch maps, medieval bronze seals, legal codices, sabers, illuminated books, gold and silver alpine crosses, and musical scores — tangible traces that document political, military and cultural developments of the dynasty.

The route continues into the Civic Museum of Susa, where the exhibition is complemented by local material: from Adelaide of Turin to evidence of alpine fortifications, the statue of Prince Eugene of Savoy Carignano and a Risorgimento-era flag. The museum spaces thus complete the narrative from a territorial perspective.

The exhibition is organised in partnership with the Civic Museum of Susa, Pro Loco di Susa APS, Savoie.live, Revejo and Artemide, under the patronage of the city of Susa, and is part of the historical tournament of the Borghi di Susa.
