The Prisenti of Gibellina: Embroidered Banners on Show at the Museo delle Trame Mediterranee

This distributed exhibition highlights the Prisenti, traditional embroidered banners presented for the SS. Crocifisso festival, exploring the intersection between local craft and contemporary art.

  • Opening: Sunday, 10 May 2026 at 12:00
  • Venues: Museo delle Trame Mediterranee (Fondazione Orestiadi) and other cultural sites in Gibellina, including the MAC “Ludovico Corrao”, Belìce/EpiCentro della Memoria Viva and the Mother Church
  • Curators: Cristina Costanzo and Enzo Fiammetta
  • Artists and dialogues: the route pairs local embroiderers with references to artists such as Canzoneri, Consagra, Boetti, Accardi, Santomaso, Turcato, Ducrot, Mahdaoui and others
  • Highlights: presentation of a new banner; a planned summer performance by Giorgio Andreotta Calò; a museum room dedicated to Maria Capo

The show traces the Prisenti tradition from the 18th to the 21st century and highlights its evolution into an artistic workshop, revitalised in the 1980s through Ludovico Corrao’s initiatives. The collection, previously exhibited at the Venice Biennale (1993) and in Palermo (2016-17), is now fully accessible.
