Guarene: between the hills of the Langhe and Savoy history

Autore: Redazione 24/08/2025 12:41

The village lies gently on the hills of the Langhe and never fails to surprise its visitors with its elegant profile and unique views over vineyards, hazelnut groves, and the small villages scattered across the countryside.

Walking along the beautiful cobbled streets of Guarene, the gaze opens up towards the Alpine chain, which on clear days appears as sharp as a postcard.

In Guarene, time flows slowly, almost suspended; daily life here is closely intertwined with unspoiled nature and the history of the place, which gives the entire atmosphere of the village its authenticity.

What to see in Guarene

The heart of the village is dominated by the imposing Castle of Guarene, a sumptuous 18th-century residence commissioned by the Roero family. Today the castle hosts a charming relais, but visitors can still explore the Italian-style gardens—architectural jewels that reflect the splendor of the noble Roero family—and the artistically frescoed halls.

Strolling through the historic center, one encounters the Parish Church of Saints Peter and Bartholomew, with its imposing bell tower, along with numerous stately homes that testify to the bond between the village and the aristocratic families of the area.

Also worth visiting is Palazzo Re Rebaudengo, an 18th-century historic residence and museum complex that includes noble halls decorated with mythological frescoes by painter Francesco Casoli, valuable paintings and stuccoes, and two works by Gian Giacomo de Alladio, known as “il Macrino.”

Traditions and events

The village of Guarene is full of life and rich in activities. Between traditions and its historic wine culture, it offers unique food and wine tastings. Among the most famous festivals dedicated to local products is the renowned Strawberry Festival, which in June fills every corner of the village with tastings, music, and markets dedicated to the fruit symbol of the town.

Also not to be missed are the Festivities in Vaccheria, a whole week of celebrations in the Vaccheria hamlet of the village. The Feast of Saint Roch and of the Summer Visitor, held on August 16, is characterized by a procession and the blessing of livestock—of which the saint is protector—and by the distribution of the charity bread known as caritone.

Equally noteworthy is the Roero Chamber Music Events, a series of concerts at the beginning of summer featuring established international artists as well as young talents.

Exploring the surroundings

Guarene is a strategic point for discovering the Langhe and Roero. Just a few kilometers away are beautiful towns such as Alba, the capital of white truffle, rich in history and tradition, or the medieval villages of Neive and Barbaresco, renowned for their traditions and timeless landscapes.

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the many nature trails that connect Guarene to neighboring towns, crossing vineyards and unspoiled woods for a unique and authentic experience in close contact with nature and local traditions.

Visiting Guarene means discovering the elegance and refinement of a timeless place, ready to gift us with unforgettable memories and experiences—get ready for exploration!
