Grottazzolina: three events for the Republic's 80th and the Town Hall's centenary

In 2026 Grottazzolina honors two significant anniversaries: the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic and 100 years since the construction of the Town Hall. The programme, promoted by the municipal administration with local associations and the Catholic Action, connects national memory with the town’s history, highlighting the municipal building as a civic monument.

The initiative is dedicated to Vincenzo Monaldi, the mayor who approved the Town Hall project in 1922 and an important figure in local and national history.

Event schedule

• Saturday 16 May 2026, 18:00 – Council Chamber: technical meeting "The birth of the Republic and its foundations" with talks on the Resistance, the 1946 referendum, the Constituent Assembly and constitutional principles. Historical documents and local materials will be shown.
• Monday 1 June 2026, 19:00 – Urban trekking through the historic centre (starting at piazzetta Comune): a cultural-historical walk featuring musical pauses, theatrical moments and a final convivial gathering; a secular vigil ahead of the Republic’s anniversary.
• Sunday 7 June 2026 – Centenary celebration of the Town Hall, with a full-day programme:
  • 10:00 – tricolour parade from the square, also dedicated to the memory of local soldiers fallen in wars;
  • 10:30 – presentation of sketches and historic photos inside the Town Hall, stories about the building’s construction and a tribute to Vincenzo Monaldi;
  • 21:30 – screening in Piazza Umberto I of a short animated film produced by the secondary school;
  • 22:00 and 23:00 – architectural video mapping shows on the Town Hall façade titled "Lights and voices of a century".

Attendance: events are open to the public; several activities take place outdoors or in itinerant form. Arriving early at the start points is recommended to facilitate logistics and full participation.
