Wearing History: Armor and Shields of Italic Peoples at the Rieti Civic Museum

From 8 May 2026 to 6 January 2027, the Rieti Civic Museum's archaeological section hosts the exhibition "Wearing History. Before Rome: the mark of the sword, the weight of the shield." The display pairs original artefacts with scientific reconstructions to clarify construction techniques, decorative elements and practical uses.

What to see

The exhibition examines military and ceremonial objects used by Italic communities, highlighting:

  • Spears and swords: technological development and materials;
  • Shields and armor components: construction solutions and ornamentation;
  • Symbolic items: social and ritual roles beyond combat.

Who should visit

The exhibition is suitable for archaeology enthusiasts, students, families and anyone interested in the material history of the Italic world. Informative panels and educational routes are designed for non-specialist audiences.
