Grottazzolina marks Republic’s 80th anniversary and 100 years of the Town Hall

In 2026 Grottazzolina links national memory and local history to mark two important anniversaries: the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic and the centenary of the Town Hall building. The municipality, together with local associations and Catholic Action, has organized a series of public events to highlight the Town Hall as a civic monument and community hub.

Schedule

  • Saturday 16 May 2026, 18:00 – Council Chamber: technical meeting titled "The birth of the Republic and its foundations" with talks on the Resistance, the 1946 referendum, the Constituent Assembly and constitutional principles. Historical documents and local archival materials will be shown.
  • Monday 1 June 2026, 19:00 – Urban trek (departure from Piazzetta Comune): a historical and cultural walk through the town centre with musical interludes, theatrical performances and a convivial closing; a secular vigil will precede the Republic anniversary.
  • Sunday 7 June 2026 – Centennial day of the Town Hall with a spread program:
    • 10:00 – tricolor parade from the square, including a tribute to local fallen;
    • 10:30 – presentation of sketches and historical photographs inside the Town Hall, talks on the building's construction and a tribute to Vincenzo Monaldi;
    • 21:30 – preview in Piazza Umberto I of a short film produced by the secondary school;
    • 22:00 and 23:00 – architectural video mapping shows on the Town Hall façade titled "Lights and Voices of a Century".

Attendance: events are open to the public. Some moments are itinerant or take place outdoors; arriving in advance at the meeting points is recommended to ease organization.
