FAI Spring Days in Venice: what to see
Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 March 2026 the FAI Spring Days return, the national initiative promoting awareness and protection of cultural heritage. Eleven sites in the Metropolitan City of Venice will be accessible to the public, with many locations offering entry by free donation.
Sites open in the historic city
- Ca' Giustinian: a Gothic palace in the San Marco area, formed from the joining of two 15th-century buildings and notable as a traditional casa-fondaco.
- Church of San Giorgio dei Greci (Castello): built between 1539 and 1573, it features a single nave with a dome and frescoes attributed to Giovanni of Cyprus under Renaissance supervision.
- Arsenale di Venezia: the historic shipyards and workshops complex, with areas of important maritime and industrial heritage opening for the event.
- Palazzo Corner Mocenigo: a 16th-century patrician residence in Campo San Polo, among the most opulent of its time.
- Palazzo Ferro Fini: the historic building overlooking the Grand Canal that houses the Regional Council of Veneto.
- Olivetti Shop in Piazza San Marco: a notable example of historic commercial architecture beneath the Procuratie Vecchie arcades.
Sites open in the mainland and lagoon area
- Church of Santa Caterina (Chioggia): a late-Renaissance monastic complex historically linked to the Cistercian Benedictines.
- Villa Venier Contarini (Mira): a late 16th-century villa on the Riviera del Brenta, today home to the Regional Institute for Venetian Villas.
- Church of San Luigi Gonzaga (Fossalta di Portogruaro): originally a Jesuit basilica combining baroque and neoclassical elements.
- Villa Mocenigo (Alvisopoli): an 18th-century residence in the borough of Portogruaro.
- Villanova della Carrera Paper Mill (San Michele al Tagliamento): a 17th-century mill known for producing high-quality paper using traditional seasonal processes.
Check opening times, visiting hours and booking options before you go: some sites require reservations or have limited-capacity visits. The weekend also supports awareness and fundraising activities aimed at safeguarding the local heritage.
