FAI Spring Days 2026 in Sardinia: what to see and how to take part

On the weekend of 21–22 March 2026, Sardinia participates in the FAI Spring Days offering guided visits to a selection of monuments and historic sites. The event provides access to locations that are often closed or hard to reach, supported by volunteers and student guides.

Sites open across the island

This edition features eight venues spread between the north, centre and south of Sardinia. Highlights include:

• Assemini – Saline Conti Vecchi: an industrial archaeology complex set within a natural area, with historical displays and saline basins to explore.
• Monserrato – ARST Railway Museum: exhibits of historic locomotives, original tools and reconstructions of station environments.
• Cagliari – Teatro Lirico: guided access to the interiors of one of the city's major cultural buildings.
• Arborea – Idrovora di Sassu: a 1934 pumping station, representative of land reclamation architecture.
• Orgosolo – Murals itinerary: a guided walk to interpret the town's murals that narrate social and political stories.
• Calangianus – Palazzo Corda: a Liberty-style residence with frescoed rooms and period decorations.
• Palau – Talmone Military Battery: a coastal fortification overlooking the La Maddalena archipelago, with gun emplacements and observation posts.
• Sassari – Palazzo Lombardo: a restored historic building featuring interior decorations and uncovered pictorial layers.

Practical information

Visits are offered on a voluntary donation basis: there is no fixed ticket price, but contributions help fund conservation efforts. Opening times and details may differ by site, so check the latest information before you go.

• Getting around: travelling between sites in different provinces is easiest by car. Plan routes and travel times in advance.
• What to bring: comfortable clothing, suitable footwear for outdoor sections and a face mask if required in enclosed spaces.
• Accommodation: visitors coming from afar can find various lodging options in Cagliari; book ahead if staying overnight.
