National Day of Historic Residences 2026: free openings across Italy

When: Sunday 24 May 2026 — free entry to hundreds of private historic residences. The event is organized by the Association of Italian Historic Houses (ADSI) for its 16th edition, themed "Custodians of the future. A living heritage for shared value".

The initiative creates an open-air, nationwide museum by opening palaces, castles, villas and historic gardens. Participating sites range from major cities to small towns, often highlighting locations outside typical tourist routes.

Highlights

  • Visits to Palazzo Gondi and other historic palaces in Florence.
  • Villas and residences in Trentino-Alto Adige and other northern regions.
  • Noble palaces in the Marche and historic houses in Umbria and Veneto.
  • Sites in Abruzzo such as the Oratorio di Sant'Antonio dei Cavalieri de Nardis in L'Aquila.
  • Openings in Sicily and Sardinia, including the Tonnara Fodera di Magazzinazzi in Alcamo (TP).

Why attend

The chosen theme highlights the role of historic residences as cultural infrastructure that can create social, economic and identity value for local communities. The day is also a practical opportunity to learn about conservation, management and enhancement projects for private protected heritage.

Practical information

  • Entry: free on 24 May 2026, unless otherwise stated by individual owners.
  • Times and arrangements: vary by site; check the official list for opening hours, meeting points and guided visits.
  • List of residences: available on the official National Day of Historic Residences 2026 website and ADSI social channels.
  • Tips: arrive early, follow access rules and owners' instructions, and verify whether reservations are required.

For the complete and updated list of participating residences by region and province, and for detailed visiting information, consult the official event website and ADSI's social media channels.
