Gino Severini. Modernity as Dialogue — Cortona, 5 July–1 November 2026

Gino Severini. Modernity as Dialogue is a major exhibition in Cortona marking the sixtieth anniversary of the artist's death. Hosted at the Museo dell'Accademia Etrusca e della Città di Cortona (Palazzo Casali), the show presents more than 80 works including paintings, drawings and archival documents from leading museums and private collections.

Highlights

  • Key works: masterpieces from Severini's Futurist and later periods, alongside early twentieth-century pieces.
  • International loans: items from institutions such as the Centre Pompidou (Paris), the Estorick Collection (London) and the Museo del Novecento (Milan).
  • Archival material: sketches and documents that illuminate Severini's artistic network and theoretical reflections.
  • Swiss frescoes: studies and unpublished photographs of his church commissions in Romandy.
  • Immersive installation: a 3D VR experience developed by LimenXR to bring visitors closer to his monumental works.
  • Special loan: the monumental "La danse du Pan Pan a Monico" (1911–1960) from the Centre Pompidou, rarely shown in Italy.

Curatorial approach and catalogue

Curators Daniela Fonti and Margherita d'Ayala Valva organised the exhibition into five sections that trace Severini's development: from divisionist beginnings to the dialogue between Futurism and Cubism, to his later classical and decorative phases and his engagement with religious art. A scholarly catalogue accompanies the exhibition.

Organisers and partners

The project is promoted by the Municipality of Cortona, the Accademia Etrusca and MAEC, in co-production with the Ministry of Culture, supported by the Tuscany Region, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze and Banca Popolare di Cortona, together with institutional partners and the Severini family.
